The Executive Chairman, Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has enjoined residents of the council area on the need to celebrate the 2026 Oro festival with caution and in line with the stipulated laws.
Hon. Benson also charged them on the need to adhere strictly with the rules guiding the traditional rites, while congratulating the Ranodu of Imota, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajibade Bakare-Agoro, CFR, the Ranodu of Imota, Olufoworesete II, as well as traditional Chiefs of Liworu and Logunmogbo, on the occasion of the 2026 Oro Traditional Festival.
He emphasised the importance of the age-long tradition to Imota and its people.
The Oro festival which restricts the movement of women into and from Imota township holds today, Saturday, August 29. During the festival women in Imota are expected to stay indoors throughout the day until morning of Sunday, August 30.
“The Oro traditional festival remains a significant aspect of our cultural identity and heritage. It is a time that underscores the importance of spiritual purification and renewal, cultural preservation, social cohesion, and the promotion of peace and unity within our community.”
“As we commemorate this important traditional festival in our beloved community, I pray that the celebration will bring renewed peace, prosperity, harmony, and abundant blessings to Imota LCDA and its people. May our cherished traditions continue to serve as a source of strength, identity, and unity for present and future generations.”
Issuing stern warning to residents on the need to be cautious and to abide with laws and directives, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele said:
“I also wish to use this medium to urge all residents of Imota LCDA to exercise caution, remain law-abiding, and adhere strictly to all directives and guidelines associated with the Oro rites.
“Women are particularly advised to refrain from unnecessary movement within the Imota community during the stipulated hours and are encouraged to remain indoors for their safety and in respect of the traditional observance.”
